Thought of the Day - April 19 - By The Numbers

Updated: Jul 30, 2021

Hi All,

As you can see below, Canada is still seeing steady growth in the number of cases. The good news is that for May the growth is linear (each week we add about 10,000 new case) rather than exponential (as we were in March).

BC is doing well, as you see the number of active cases has been more or less constant for the past month (there was a slight increase on Friday when BC finally started using a more realistic criterion for Recovered and thus revised down the number of recoveries).

BC, along with New Brunswick, PEI and the Prairie Provinces, are leading the country in flattening the curve. Quebec is still in real trouble, and Ontario and Nova Scotia are still seeing significant increases.

Unfortunately BC, Quebec and Ontario have high death rates, largely due to outbreaks in seniors’ residences.

And testing, is what it is. The provinces that have lower case rate are managing to keep up.

This week a shout out to PEI. They only added one new case mid-week and have been hanging tough at 26 since then – they now only have three active cases. They may be the first Province to declare an end of their initial wave.

Cheers

Cliff
