Thought of the Day - April 26 - By The Numbers

Updated: Aug 6, 2021

Hi All,

Another week has flown by. This past week Canada added 12,000 new cases, a little up from the week before.

In BC we are still getting our share.

And our level of testing in BC is not keeping up. We are close to moving into last place.

Looking across the provinces at new cases per day, we see NB and PEI look like they have eliminated local infections, NFLD was looking good also but had a late-breaking case. Manitoba and Saskatchewan are slowly reducing. BC and Ontario continue to rack up cases at a steady pace. Alberta reported the huge breakouts in meat processing plants this past week. Quebec continues to keep pace with the US national average.

But is if we look at new deaths things are more troubling. While PEI and NB have had no deaths, and NFLD, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are doing well. BC and Alberta continue to add moralities. Nova Scotia and Ontario are not doing so well. And Quebec now has a higher mortality rate than the US; and remember preventing deaths is what the current measures are really all about.

This week’s shout-out goes to Newfoundland & Labrador. After a rocky start, they have turned things around. They only added one case all week, and have had no recent deaths.

Cheers

Cliff
