Thought of the Day - April 6 - There Could Be A New Renaissance Starting

Updated: Jul 30, 2021

Hi All,

I find it interesting when people ask “when will everything return to normal?”. Frankly my answer is: never.

With billions of people in various levels of isolation and under employed for weeks, nay months, with trillions of dollars wiped off the world balance sheets and hyperinflation in the offing, things are looking pretty grim, or are they?

This year will undoubtedly be a great paradigm shift for mankind, but may also trigger a new renaissance.

Never before have so many been turning to:

  • the exploration of the arts: whether it be dusting off an instrument, trying your hand at writing, or painting with the kids;

  • the learning of crafts: gardening, cooking, sewing/knitting or mastering basic trades required for home repair;

  • adoption of new technologies: e.g. online socializing, e-tourism, deployment of drone technology, new medical innovation, and electronic learning and entertainment;

  • re-evaluating values: e.g. happiness and health over economic gain;

  • new global communication: lines of communication have drastically changed as people reach out to loved ones around the world. Countries and cultures are compared as each tries to deal with the issues. New trading alliances are forged in times of need;

  • tearing down traditional institutions: companies, governments, financial, education and religious institutions needs to find new ways or be swept aside;

  • starting new commerce: this is a boom period for many industry disruptors, technology innovators and entertainers of all kinds.

It is ironic that one of the catalysts for the Renaissance Period, one of the greatest eras for art, architecture, and literature in human history, was the Black Death. It has been said that: Only a crisis – actual or perceived – produces real change. Get ready for the brave new world (and the brave new you) of 2021.

Cheers

Cliff
