Thought of the Day - August 19 2021 - School's Out for Summer

In the halcyon days of August, it is scary to think that the new school year is set to begin in only three weeks. And with Canada now starting its fourth wave, it is scary to think that schools may once again be a catalyst.

The current back-to-school guidance from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, was released back in June, before cases began to rise again. It anticipated schools reopening under near-normal conditions - amazing to think that there will be no mask mandate for the start of the upcoming school year. As you know, although many high school students have been vaccinated, COVID vaccines have not yet been approved in Canada for younger kids.

Remember those six Rapid Response Teams that the Federal Government was kind enough to fund back in March? ( Thought of the Day - March 9 - Rapid Response Teams ). It seems so do most people, I have been unsuccessful in finding any indication they had recommendations or made any changes to reduce COVID transmission in schools.

That said, there is a rumour that the province may introduce an updated back-to-school plan in the next week. So parents, keep your eyes and ears open.

Cheers

Cliff

P.S. Here is what was talked about on short year ago, when this was all new: Thought of the Day - August 21 - Back to School .

Today, indoor mask mandates were re-introduced for students in Grade 4 or higher.
