As you have probably heard, the early rumour that young children do not get COVID-19 was debunked some time ago. Indeed while young people are more likely to be asymptomatic, and because they are less likely to have underlying health issues rapidly recover when symptoms arise, they are just as likely to contract COVID-19.
Now a new study in the US suggests children under five may be superspreaders. Young children are know to be significant spreaders of colds and influenza, if from nothing else than we tend to isolate adults when sick and do the opposite with young children. Testing on children under five in the US is showing a high rate of infection and those that are infected have a significant viral load (meaning they are riddled with it). Thus make sure to keep them away from grandpa.
So while we may be concerned with the reopening of the schools in September. We may find the real issue will prove to be day-cares and kindergartens.
Cheers
Cliff
