It has been a while since we talked about the vaccine wars ( Thought of the Day - August 19 - Vaccine Wars ) but believe you-me they are still raging. So what's cooking - and this is probably not accurate as there is more miss-information out there than real facts:

  1. There are over 320 vaccines candidates in various stages of clinical trials, 180 recognized in Canada;

  2. Trials here in Canada (many are pre-clinical):

  • Alberta - 8

  • BC - 11

  • Manitoba - 5

  • NB - 1

  • NFLD - 1

  • NWT - 1

  • NS - 4

  • Nunavut - 1

  • Ont - 27

  • PEI - 1

  • QC - 23

  • Sask - 3

  • Yukon - 1

  • Other - 2

3. Some of the front runners:

  • AstraZenica (UK) - Oh hold - patient dies in Brazil (Canada ordered 20M doses);

    • Sinovac (China) - Phase III (Canada 0);

  • Sputnik V (Russia) - Phase III (Canada 0);

  • Pfizer (US/German) - Phase III (Canada - millions);

  • Moderna (US) - Phase III (Canada - millions);

  • J&J (US) - On hold (Canada 38M doses)

  • NovaVax (US) - Phase II (Canada 76M doses)

  • GlaxoSmithKline (UK) - Phase II (Canada 72M doses).
