Thought of the Day - September 12 2021 - By the Numbers

The world continues to see lower new case numbers over the past week, down close to 10%. Mongolia, Israel and the UK are in amongst a series of vacation destinations as having the most cases, but due to their higher vaccination rates, they are lower than the tropical islands in deaths per capita.
While the US continues to dominate the world in total new cases, as mentioned a week ago, their current wave looks like it has peaked. Cases are down about 15%, hospitalizations are fairly stable and deaths are creeping up slowly (it is not clear what was missed with their Labor Day reporting).
Canada continues up the wave with an 8% increase in cases. This, coupled with almost 30% increase in hospitalizations, translates to our active cases being up nearly 13%. Now our wave is a month in, deaths are increasing, this week up by 41% - we are currently witnessing five times the number of daily deaths compared to this time last year.

Vaccination levels in Canada continue to grow, slowly. This coming week we should hit 75% first dose and 69% second.

This means that Canada is now ahead of the UK. Japan, with the Olympic imperative, has now surpassed the US.
Saskatchewan and Alberta continue to climb the province/US state new COVID case ranking whereas BC is still managing to stay out of the race.
This week's shout-out goes to the Northwest Territories. After several months battling the spread, they are now bucking the trend seen across most of the country and steadily decreasing in new cases. It also looks like they may pull through without a death.
Cheers
Cliff
