Thought of the Day - April 23 - Wanted: People Who Know a Half Century-old Computer Language

“Wow”. As an “x-IT Guy” I just had to pass this on, and all I can say is “Wow”.

The state of New Jersey is looking for Cobol programmers to help out in getting their systems in shape for the deluge of claims: https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/08/business/coronavirus-cobol-programmers-new-jersey-trnd/index.html

A buddy of mine, who was a Cobol-wiz in the late 70s, has already applied. He received this in response – but probably the US only wants “local folk”.

I guess some things never change. Anytime there is a global crisis (remember Y2K) there is a call for Cobol.

I suppose old programs never die, but the programmers do fade away.
