Thought of the Day - March 7 2022 - 100% of Canadians Have Had COVID

Here we are back in Canada.

We survived mixing with the masses, managed to obtain negative rapid test results (the resort provided the test for free, that way they can move you along rather than having you take advantage of their policy that allows you to stay if you test positive), and successfully filled in the ArriveCAN app (FYI, you can upload two vaccination proof documents; I assume this could be needed to cover the two tests you need to be "fully vaccinated". However, if you only upload one - the Federal Vaccine passport - the ArriveCAN app asks you if you wish to "upload another" or "void vaccination proof". We found the only way around it was to upload the document twice).

I must admit it was a bit of a relief to be able to get back home. As our week progressed, the combination of late-night revelry, change of diet, too much exercise, minor sunburn etc. ensured I was sure my mid-week sore throat was surely "the VID".

Gail passed on an article from the Beaverton whose headline reads: 100% of Canadians pretty sure they’ve had COVID already.

It goes on to say that: Health Canada has released the results of a national survey over the past week which confirms expert suspicions that every person in the country is confident they’ve already caught COVID by now.

“All our respondents had a high degree of certainty that they probably had COVID-19 already, whether because of that weird tickly, sore throat they had last July or that time in March when they felt gassy but not, you know, normal gassy,” said Dr. Keith Ulbrom on behalf of the health agency, “I mean I knew that I already had it because my cousin had it and then I felt like the backs of my eyes were itchy after speaking to him on the phone. But it’s a shock that so many other people were so sure.”

The article also let's you know: at press time, you, YES YOU, have COVID-19.

I see as of today BC has extended the supply of at-home test kits beyond high-risk environments; now anyone over 60 can request a five-pack. As mentioned before ( Thought of the Day - January 7 2021 - Rapid Tests ) it has been a great idea to keep these things out of the hands of our irresponsible youth, and away from as many of the obsessive population as possible.

What we actually need is an available antibody test so we would have a better idea whether Canadians are in the same club as the people in the UK or the US where well over 90% of the population has some form (vaccination, exposure or both) protection. Of course, this is unlikely to happen here. Such an approved test would mean the federal government just might have to issue vaccine passport exemptions to a million or so undeserving anti-vaxxer types, and they would have to mess about with the ArriveCAN app yet again. Easier to just stop them travelling, right?

Cheers

Cliff
