Thought of the Day - August 26 - Is the Genie Out of the Bottle?

Updated: Aug 8, 2021

Well after all that hard work: business closures, public re-education, isolation of the most vulnerable, it looks like a new wave of COVID cases in BC is upon us. We continue to have the highest number of new daily cases and thus the highest number of active cases the Province has seen so far.

However, we need to put this into perspective. Our current detected new daily case rate is around 2 per 100k population. This is half of Ontario's peak, and one-sixth that of Quebec. That said, as we are now hearing reports that testing centres are now backlogged this means that more cases are on the way. And, if we do double the number of cases then we will start to put a strain on several levels of responders.

Late last month BC was looking to hire 500 "Contact Tracers". We can only hope they are on the payroll and trained up as I am sure they now have their hands full.

Cheers

Cliff
