Thought of the Day - August 5 - Holy Cruise-Line Batman!

Updated: Aug 6, 2021

The last cruise ship, lost in the COVID-sea, finally came into port on April 26th after 113 days. Since then most of the headlines have been about folk looking for rebates or refunds for cruises past or present.

Welp, just last week at least 41 passengers and crew on a Norwegian cruise ship have tested positive for COVID-19. Hundreds more passengers who travelled on the MS Roald Amundsen are in quarantine and awaiting test results.

This week, Norway says it will stop all cruise ships with more than 100 people on board from disembarking at Norwegian ports after the coronavirus outbreak on the vessel.  Health Minister Bent Hoie announced the ban Monday, saying the new rules will apply for the next 14 days! He said ships that have already departed will be able to offload passengers and crew at Norwegian ports but that no new journeys can take place.

Who'da thunk that the message that institutions with close-proximity occupants (care-homes, prisons, meat-packing plants, cruise ships) are a no-no, has been well known to the general population for a while, particularly with evidence that as many as 80% of cases are asymptomatic or involve people in denial.

Guess the cruise-ship industry cannot be faulted for trying, if people are still silly enough to get on board.

Cheers

Cliff
