Thought of the Day - January 11 2022 - Cancelled Flights

I saw the headlines over the weekend that "For a second time in two days, the majority of passengers arriving in India on a flight from Italy have tested positive for Covid according to Indian officials."

It seems last Wednesday more than a hundred people tested positive after arriving at the Amritsar, India airport from Milan, Italy. Last Friday, 173 out of 285 passengers aboard the flight from Rome, Italy to Amritsar, India tested positive on arrival.

I remember thinking it was strange that this one airport has noticed such a massive infection rate yet there have not been similar reports from other airports. Heck, this kind of result means nearly everyone in Italy must be infected!

I guess I was not alone. Officials have now said many of the passengers, who had tested positive initially, retested negative a few hours later ( Thought of the Day - January 7 2022 - Rapid Tests ). It turns out that the airport recently changed testing agencies. Officials have now announced there will be an investigation into what is going on. Regardless of the result, the damage has been done, the story is now out there.

As you have probably seen, a number of sun-vacation companies in Canada are cancelling destinations: Air Canada Vacations, WestJet, Air Transat, and, after all the work done by those "Social Media Influencers", I am sure Sunwing will be under pressure to follow suit. The reason they are cancelling is simply economic. Canadians are putting their winter vacation plans on hold. Why? Remember, as well as being told by government officials not to travel, if you spend time hanging around an airport gate and then fly on a plane there is a good possibility you will be exposed to Omicron.

Of course, as I have been saying for some time, in the coming month you will probably be exposed anyway. That said, I am guessing, for most people, getting exposed on a plane heading out of the country would not be their first choice of venue.
