Welcome to the first "By the Numbers" of 2021.
The great news of course is the continued rollout of mass vaccinations, now close to 15 million around the world.

Here are the latest figures for vaccinations per 100 people. As you can see Israel is now well ahead of the rest of the world. Canada is doing well, now we have both mRNA-vaccines Pfizer and Moderna to draw upon, and hopefully soon we will see the approval of AstraZenica.

In Canada about 0.3% of the population has had their first shot. In BC we closing in on the 20k mark on our way to 400k people vaccinated by the end of March.

Across Canada, Manitoba continues to struggle, still recording the highest per capita fatalities.

But their number of new cases is falling, and so it looks like Quebec will once again be the worst off.

In BC things have been slowly improving in the number of new cases, hospitalizations have been flat and deaths accumulating at a steady rate.

We will see tomorrow whether the Dec 31 case spike is an anomaly (people getting tested before New Year, or truing up of numbers before year-end) or whether the second wave is picking up steam again.
A friend suggested we have not touched on the age distribution for cases. Here are the figures here in BC.

In graphical form the age correlation is pretty staggering, driven by the group home outbreaks.

The week's shout out goes to all the seniors who are hanging in there.
Cheers
Cliff
