Thought of the Day - March 14 2022 - Max Is Still Camping!

I can't leave the blog without making another mention of Max. Remember Max Woosey who, about the same time as the blog started, began sleeping out in a tent in his backyard to raise money for charity. Max was 10 years old when he was inspired to raise money for North Devon Hospice after it cared for his neighbour Rick Abbott before he died from cancer. The 74-year-old gave Max his first tent and told him to "promise me you'll have an adventure in here".

He has now been out there for well over 700 nights and has raised an estimated £700,000, including contributions topped up with Gift Aid tax relief - over a million dollars. He was awarded the British Empire Medal on the New Year's Honours list for his fundraising.

Of course, his amazing quest has not been without adversity. Back last month during a wind storm his tent pole gave out. He said was quoted as saying "Wind 1, tent 0. I had to go through with [staying in] it, but it wasn't my best night's sleep ever. A lot of my stuff did get wet. I've had to put an old tent up, which isn't the best."

His second anniversary is coming up, so he has launched another Big Camp Out challenge - encouraging kids around the world to raise money for charity by camping out overnight!

Such an inspiring story!

Cheers

Cliff
