The world official COVID-19 case total went over 175 million this week, with 160 million people "recovered".
The world death rate is increasing again, in part as countries such as Peru ( Thought of the Day - June 6 2021 - By the Numbers ) and now India, are revising their figures.

On the other hand, it should be noted, reporting issues aside, that the real situation in India continues to improve. Cases have declined significantly in the cities in the past weeks and deaths have started to decrease somewhat. This may be in part due to the mass distribution of low-cost therapeutics across many states ( Thought of the Day - May 10 2021 - Hope for the World ).

Here in Canada, things continue to improve - new cases have halved in the past two weeks.

While Manitoba has seen a 35% reduction in cases over the last two weeks, they remain the most troubled province by far. They have four and a half times the average number of cases and more than three times the number of deaths per capita when compared to the rest of Canada.

Canada is closing in on 65% partially and 12% fully vaccinated. If all countries are included (not just those with significant populations) this puts us #32 in the world in vaccinations per capita.
Here is an extrapolation as to when we should reach the 75%/20% first Federal reopening hurdle.

The second dose rate has kicked up considerably and so we will make this target toward the end of the month. However, it does not look like we will make the 75% first-dose figure before July 1, and if anything first dose take-up rates are starting to decline.
This week's shout-out goes to Alberta. They had the highest case rates in the country by far in May, but they have now come back down to the national average in both cases and deaths, and are in the home stretch to put their third wave behind them.
Cheers
Cliff
