Thought of the Day - June 18 2021 - No Boss on AstraZeneca

Updated: Aug 1, 2021

Discussions continue concerning the potential reopening of the Canadian-US border in late July. On the other hand, this little snippet illustrates how important requisite well thought out vaccine passport strategy may prove to be when it comes to Canadians travelling abroad ( Thought of the Day - April 29 2021 - Vaccine Passports ).

A new show is opening in New York at the end of the month titled Springsteen on Broadway; this is Broadway’s first post-shutdown production.

That said, don't rush out and book a ticket if you have had the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. It seems you are not welcome. The production company decided you need to be vaccinated to attend the show, but they are only accepting US FDA-approved vaccines. AstraZeneca is not on the list - indeed they did not even bother to apply to the FDA knowing full well due to the Vaccine Wars they would not get approval for US domestic use ( Thought of the Day - April 13 2021 - Vaccine Wars Bi-Weekly Update ).

It seems 70% of Broadway customers are foreigners, so this decision could be a real issue for the production. UofT bio-ethics professor Kerry Bowman called the announcement just the tip of the iceberg. “I’m grateful for this story. It’s triggering a very important debate,” said Bowman.

Don't worry, you can still get to see Springsteen on Broadway when it comes to Netflix in November. But rest assured you do need to worry about vaccination passports, they will most certainly be the topic of the summer.

Cheers

Cliff

How will this policy apply in smaller countries that don't have their equivalent of a CDC? In my case this will affect my travel plans next year to Europe and the Carrabians. Visiting my son in Boston? Would getting a booster shot of one of the approved vaccines allow entry into the US? Flying to the Carrabians that would overfly the US be allowed?
