We talked about the dire situation in Czechia (Czech Republic) earlier this week ( Thought of the Day - March 8 - Czechia ), however, this new variant-driven wave, experience early in the year in western Europe, is rolling across all of Eastern Europe.

Looking at hospitalizations you can see the difference between the countries in the east and the west of Europe, and in comparison to Canada (our rates are 10 times lower than Czechia).

The same thing is happening in South America also, with Brazil, Chile and Paraguay particularly hard hit.

Of these countries, Chile has the most aggressive vaccination program. Here are the top ten countries leading the world (Canada added for comparison).

Looking at new cases across some of the top countries vaccinated you can see cases are falling in all of them except for Chile.

Here is what has transpired in Canada over this past week (compared to the first of the month):

There has been a significant uptick in cases in Ontario over the past week. However, it will be BC that will probably be at the top in new cases per capita this coming week.

In Canada. a little over 6% of the population has now seen a vaccination.

This week's shout-out goes to Quebec. They lead the country with the single-dose vaccine strategy. Cases are fairly flat, and hospitalizations and deaths continue to decline. As a result, they are also looking to ease more restrictions on places of worship, spas and indoor pools in hotels as of March 26, along with new guidelines on sports.
Cheers
