Back in September, we talked about neighbourhood restaurants that had closed their doors ( Thought of the Day - September 7 - Neighbourhood Restaurants ) due to the pandemic. One that was mentioned was the Old Admiral Pub on Hastings that closed almost a year ago. The Admiral was an early victim of COVID largely as they catered to an older clientele, who came in for a cheap pint or roast-beef dinner.

Great news, this month the pub reopened once again. Under new management, the Admiral Pub and Grill boasts a new menu. Gone is the roast beef dinner, but for twice the price you can get an Avocado Toast Appetiser or Healthy Spa Salad. Yes, the Old Admiral has been gentrified.
To think the North Burnaby Inn, which used to feature daily exotic dance shows, is now called the Admiral Boutique Hotel and features a Gastropub!
Don't get me wrong, I wish the new owners well. They had the guts to make an investment in the restaurant business in these difficult times; thus it has not become another Milestones or Eastside Marios. And they are at least referencing the legacy by keeping the name. That said, I am just not sure it is my-cup-of-tea, as when the mood takes me I can still make a pretty mean avocado toast for under a dollar.
Cheers
Cliff
