Thought of the Day - September 7 - Neighbourhood Restaurants

Updated: Aug 8, 2021

Even before COVID, local restaurants were few and far between. The SoHo sports bar is still vacant, scenic Horizons restaurant closed at the beginning of the year, the Old Admiral closed during the first wave, and the gourmet Pear Tree recently announced closure. While I do appreciate that our area has significant zoning restrictions, it is also nice to be able to walk, cycle, take a bus or a short drive to go out for a meal. Restaurant chains are still well represented in our community and, for now, we still have a few home-grown options: higher-end restaurants (like the Hart House on Deer Lake) to local "watering holes" (like the Lougheed Village Bar & Grill), and a number in between (like the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course restaurant).

With the prognosis that between 25-50% of restaurants in Vancouver will not make 2021, this is the time to venture out. Treat yourself, and by your actions have a say in who stays.

Cheers

Cliff

P.S. If you have any neighbourhood favourites be sure to pass them on to Gail and me.
