The weather on Monday was just fine - warm and sunny, with a hint of a breeze. Thanks to Shilipi, we assembled on the cul-de-sac promptly at oh-sixteen-hundred hours. Each to our assigned physical-distancing demarc, lawn chairs in hand, for the "recitals".
While over twenty people were in attendance (gasp), very few multi-bubble-cards had to be played. Sani-Wipes in hand, the microphone made the rounds. After all-round introductions (makes you realize how isolated we have been), Rayhan bravely went first, serenading the street with tunes on the keyboard.
Next legacy instruments we turned out. Cliff gave a brief introduction of "Those Were the Days" on the accordion. Then Marv gave us a glimpse of his rebel days - revealing to us the revolutionary back-lyrics of Simon & Garfunkel's rendition of "Scarborough Fair" and jamming to the likes of Santana.
By then the understated maestro was on scene. Nelson amazed us with his guitar and singing of Roger Whittaker's "The Last Farewell". Last but not least, Meher on the violin (Baroque no less).
Time for the choral rendition of "Imagine" - tried by all. And finally, the musical itinerary was rounded out with a duet, Amen and Shilpi singing the inspirational "Ek Din Bik Jaayega Mati Ke Mol".
With the sun still high-in-the-sky, it was time for the cycle show: five dare-devils on their pedal-powered machines coming within inches of the toes of the awestruck audience.
But all good things come to an end. Thank you Shilpi, neighbours, and in a way, coronavirus (imagine!).
Cheers
Cliff
