A friend passed this on (thanks Pieter), a new website that gives you an indication of the size/wait time of the lineup outside a business: https://howbsy.com/

Customers at the store can provide a real-time update (sort of like Gas Buddy - guess we are not using that much at the moment).

Not only do you get prior knowledge of a long wait, if you do get stuck in a line it gives you something to do: telling people to stay away. What a great idea.
