The COVID timeline on the blog has been updated with February's events, adding to the saga that, in Canada, has spanned more than two years:
It was an interesting month for Canada. While most provinces announced and even implemented the elimination of COVID legal restrictions, passports and mandates, BC and the Federal Government for the most part seem to be going in the opposite direction ( Thought of the Day - February 21 2022 - BC Sends Mixed Message On COVID Measures ).
The contrast does not stop there. While the world looked on and celebrated Canada's enlightened freedom of expression as a model for civil rights, here at home the "protestors" were vilified, called names, and incarcerated.
As mentioned a few times before, coming out of this past month we are truly a nation divided. To illustrate when I was at a Dollar Store and had to endure a passionate soliloquy, while selecting a Valentine's Day Card, on how all of the "Truckers" needed to be jailed or deported. This was in stark contrast to a taxi driver who brought us back from the airport saying he was planning on joining a hunger strike in support of these same "Truckers". Wow!
Our leaders, supported by the media, have really done a number on Canadians, all of which came to a head last month. Yep, on the one hand, we have people so pissed off they stand out in the cold for days (people accused of criminal offences yet extraordinary measures are required to arrest them) against COVID measures. We also have analysts trying to tell Canadians they have many bigger things to worry about, like economic turmoil ($2.10l for gas), rising unemployment (started increasing again in January), under-treatment of other medical issues, and quite simply the societal impact of limited social interaction. In short, both of these groups just want to end the mess we have created. But why aren't we? Human nature. It took years for us to accept that we needed some restrictions to keep us safe, once the juggernaut got going we then went too far, and now it takes time for us to be convinced that continuing these measures is now harming rather than helping.
March is the month to put the pandemic behind us. Pretty please!
Cheers
Cliff
