Thought of the Day - October 28 - Reflections from the UK

Updated: Aug 8, 2021

Hi All,

Today's blog is an excerpt from a message from a friend from England:

Your blog about cruise ships interested me because where we have our apartment at Highcliffe, we see four or five such ships anchored out to sea nearby and some enterprising boat owners from Bournemouth and Christchurch are running tourist trips out to see them!

Also, your comments about working from home raised memories because my wife ran her Accountancy practice from home for a number of years.  One thing that we had to take into account at that time was that although there could be a tax advantage from claiming a room as the office there were implications regarding local authority taxes and the requirements and ownership aspects with the mortgagor. I’m not sure if that would be the case in Canada.

Yesterday I went around popping poppies through letterboxes with a note, explaining that I am not allowed to offer them personally at the door this year (as I would usually do) because of the present restrictions, and inviting the recipients to let me know if they need more poppies or something else, like a cross or pin or to make a donation.  I have already received a number of donations put through my letterbox which is encouraging. Cases are rising here again and we are trying hard to stay safe but this virus seems capable of surprising.

The UK is currently seeing the re-imposition of restrictions, especially in the north. At present we have another friend from the UK currently quarantining for a fortnight in our Airbnb suite. He recently became a grandfather so decided to come over to see his new grandson before new measures to combat the increasing cases in the UK or in Canada made this more difficult.

Cheers

Cliff
