The Coronavirus continues to reach new milestones around the world. The official cases are now over 30 million, recoveries are approaching 25 million and deaths are closing in on a million. The WHO said in a recent announcement they expect the number of deaths to double before the pandemic is behind us. Although the number of new cases per day continue to rise (now around 250,000/day), actually the number of daily fatalities is slowly dropping, now below 5,000.

From a case fatality perspective the america's continue to dominate the Top-20. With eleven countries (Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, USA, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Canada and Honduras) and several more not far behind. Most of the rest are in Europe (Belgium, Spain, UK, Italy, Sweden, France and the Netherlands):

Of course what this really says is that the countries in Asia and Africa are faring far better, even considering potential reporting differences (Thought of the Day - September 24 - Shout Out For Africa).
Here at home the second wave of cases continues (we are now over 150,000 official cases across Canada), again led by Quebec:

This time though, BC represents a much higher proportion:

Last week BC recorded about 160 new cases per million, double the rate we had at the initial peak.
But at least Canada is still seeing significantly fewer deaths than the first wave (last week around 50):

This week there will be no shout out to any Canadian region. All provinces still have active cases, heck even the Yukon looks like it might have a case, and thus, as we move into fall, mitigating restrictions are again increasing across the country.
Cheers
Cliff
