Tip of the Day - New Development In Testing

Updated: Jul 30, 2021

Hi All,

I have been noticing of late more positive discussion on the topic of testing. Some of you may have already heard about this but if not it may take a second read to understand the full implications.

As you know many governments, including our own, are struggling to keep up with testing for even the most critical of cases. A safe vaccine, if even possible, is likely a year away.

That said, it now seems a simple test, detecting Covid-19 anti-bodies, is likely available in the short term. Of course such a test will only be useful after you have had Covid-19. The test is expected to be much easier/more scalable/safer to administer than the antigen test now being used to detect the virus.

Why this is important: first, those that think they have had the virus and have recovered can finally confirm they have had it. But secondly, and far more importantly, it will mean confirmation of a growing workforce that is now (at least for some time) immune; they can return to providing vital services, restarting the economy, and in some ways rebuilding society. Indeed, in some ways, our future may lie in the hands of the partying “Spring Breakers” now on the beach in English Bay.

Cheers

Cliff
