"This is not the time to load up the Winnebago and travel around British Columbia," said Premier John Horgan. While the press was using terms like "sweeping new changes", really the province is just putting in place what most thought was already being done.
Specifically:
There will be signs at B.C.’s border with Alberta warning people not to come into B.C. unless it’s for essential travel (heck there were COVID warnings on the notice boards back last summer), but there will be no checkpoints.
Checkpoints are being put in place on BC roads, and people could face a fine for non-essential travel outside their local health authority.
The province is working with tourism operators to ensure they’re not taking bookings from visitors outside their region.
BC Ferries will stop accepting bookings for recreational vehicles such as campers and trailers at the end of this week.
Restrictions on indoor dining at pubs and restaurants and indoor group fitness will be extended until the end of the May long weekend (assuming the third wave is subsiding by then).
In comparison with the measures in place in most other provinces, these are just the bare minimum. As I said above, most people in BC thought these were already happening, and yet I hear even some of these are still under debate.
Cheers
Cliff
