Thought of the Day - April 5 2021 - Remember to Develop Your Passions

Updated: Aug 6, 2021

While spring might be in the air in some parts of the country, we have to face the fact that we have at least a couple more months of restrictions ahead of us.

A year ago we talked about a couple of pursuits that you might want to undertake:

But I have a couple more for you, both you can do from the comfort of your own home.

How about:

  • Airplane Spotting; Yes that is right, with the dramatic reduction in passenger air travel, checking out the arrivals and departures has gotten a whole lot easier, and more interesting. For example, a friend spotted the Antonov An-225 Mriya, the largest cargo plane in the world lifting off from YVR earlier this year; I wonder what they were carrying? When you do hear a plane overhead, you can validate your guesses on the internet. Sites like: FlightRadar24: https://www.flightradar24.com/, Plane Finder: https://planefinder.net/, ADS-B Exchange: https://www.adsbexchange.com/, Freedar: https://freedar.uk/, Plane Mapper: https://www.planemapper.com/, RadarBox: https://www.radarbox.com/, and apps like The Flight Tracker or Flight Board. They are all seeing unprecedented interest.

  • Closed Ecosystem: Take a large glass jar with a sealing lid, grab some mud, water, and plants. Close it up and put it in your window. And get ready for an amazing exploration into the world of ecosystems. There are dozens of YouTube videos that take you through this fascinating pursuit.

The pandemic has meant some folks have been working their butts off, with little or no time for a break, while for others there has been ample time to pursue new interests. Remember, while waiting for the 'third wave' of COVID to subside, you need to seize the moment. Whether the pandemic has given you extra time or presented you with new opportunities, make sure to take full advantage of them. While we ask our leaders for a reopening plan, make sure you have already thought through yours, including if there is anything you want to achieve before the next 'new-normal' arrives.

In short, when this has largely passed make sure that the infamous quote from Rory Cochrane does ring true for you: "I do not regret the things I've done, but those I did not do."

Cheers

Cliff
