Thought of the Day - August 31 2021 - Exposing Exposures

Updated: Sep 1, 2021

It has been a while since I talked about the BC provincial exposure sites ( Thought of the Day - April 9 2021 - Major Strategy Change in BC ). In April, Bonnie Henry announced "New Workplace Closure Powers Due to COVID-19 Transmission", this "power" also included public reporting on all workplaces with outbreaks. Thus, we would have one place to find a list of all significant exposure locations, rather than needing to rely on random reports in the press.

Today I went back to the site to see the list and what did I find? Well, nothing.

Call me a cynic but I find it very hard to believe with nearly six thousand active cases in the province that there is not currently a single seriously affected workplace across BC. Heck on the same site we see fourteen care homes with current outbreaks, dozens of flights, people contact-traced to venues, and even issues with the bus to Buckley Bay. Considering the fact that the last time there was even an update to the workplace investigation list was back in June I don't think this strategy was ever even implemented.

So while the BC government does a good job at highlighting issues with schools, hospitals, courthouses, flights and the Buckley Bay bus, we are still only getting half the story.

Cheers

Cliff
