Thought of the Day - February 10 2022 - Meanwhile in Russia

Russia has confirmed over thirteen million cases of coronavirus and 340 thousand official deaths, according to their national coronavirus information center (last time we checked in it was 250k Thought of the Day - November 10 2021 - Back Over to Russia ). That said, Russia’s total excess fatality count since the start of the coronavirus pandemic is now over a million. Under half their population is fully vaccinated, Russia just started vaccinating teenagers last month. Moreover, their Omicron cases have only just peaked.

You can see in comparison to Canada things are far, far worse in Russia.

In excess deaths, Russia is three times worse than even the USA, equating to a fifteen-times higher rate than Canada.

Regions in Russia started a new round of lockdowns at the beginning of February. This week Russia's Labor Ministry recommended that all enterprises have as many of their employees working remotely as possible.

In a progressive move, Russians will be able to take an antibody test to obtain a coronavirus QR-based health pass starting February 21st, the Health Ministry said Tuesday, regardless of their vaccination status. Surprisingly the central government lifted the seven-day self-isolation restrictions for those who have come into contact with COVID-19 patients, and for infected people from a fort-night to seven days of isolation.

While I assume it has nothing to do with the current tensions, besides Biden, Johnson and Trudeau, Putin also looking for something to take his people's mind off COVID.

Cheers
