Thought of the Day - February 15 2022 - A Year Later Many Still Don't Get It!

Below is the blog entry from one year ago, February 8th 2021 to be exact - unedited for your reading pleasure. It is interesting to see what has changed over the last year. To be fair, the most significant thing that has changed in the last twelve months is the fortuitous arrival of Omicron.
The need for vaccination has come and gone in a single year. Vaccination saved many lives during the Beta and Delta waves. Now most Canadians have had two, some three and even four shots. Moreover, the majority of Canadians have been exposed thus enjoy the more profound natural immunity. Thus like the flu shot, COVID vaccination can return to a personal choice focussed on high-risk groups.
Omicron's rapid spread around the world and across the country speaks to the fact that travel restrictions are now pointless. As for the rest, I give you thinking from this time last year.
If it was not so sad, it would be laughable how we really just don't get it. As I have talked about before, COVID-19 is largely a western-world problem, and we still don't get it. No wonder more and more people protest, more and more people think this whole thing is a hoax - they have just come to the conclusion that as we continue to handle this so badly there must be a conspiracy.
Just in case you have not yet figured this out:
we are still waffling about the basics - for example, mask-wearing - people must wear well-fitting medical-grade masks in all indoor public spaces, period;
we are still waffling about preventive treatments - Vitamin-D, Ivermectin, HCQ, Zinc, colchicine - they are cheap, available and non-harmful in limited doses - but all we see are reports non-effective in critical cases - well dah, we should not even be there;
we are still waffling about quarantine - it's easy, if you are sick you are taken away from society - hey, pay people for the inconvenience;
we are still waffling about travel - it's simple no-travel to/from high-case regions - period, and if you must/want to travel in Canada during this crisis you must be tracked, and you must go into government-provided quarantine;
we are still waffling about the most vulnerable - care-homes are the number one priority, that is where over 70% of the people die;
we are still killing people's livelihoods - if you are not sick, if you are not old, if you have no pre-existing conditions - get back to work;
we are still pandering to the medical and pharma industries - they are doing a great job, but they should not distract us from any of the above.
This all sounds too simple, this all sounds too radical, welp, other countries are doing it and winning, and what does that make us? People, last chance to stop the third-wave.
Unlike some countries, I guess we never stopped our third or fourth wave, that said, no country will stop their Omicron wave.
Cheers
Cliff
