Thought of the Day - November 11 2021 - Lest We Forget

This year, as last, Canadians were discouraged from aggregating to commemorate Remembrance Day due to COVID risk. Most events were virtual. That said, a few public commemorations were still held.

Reuben Sinclair, who lives in Richmond BC, is the oldest living veteran in Canada. The 110-year-old, who served during the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Air Force, was honoured at a Vancouver Remembrance Day ceremony.

This morning, ahead of the start of the VRC Remembrance Day Pursuit Race, we heard the report of the cannon from Portside Park. We stood at attention aboard our vessel in the calm waters of English Bay and observed the two minutes of silence, punctuated by the 15th Field Artillery Regiment's 21-gun salute. Just before our race commenced, the Royal Canadian Air Force flew in formation across the water. Quite a poignant setting for reflection on the past.

Cheers
