Thought of the Day - November 18 - The World's Best Beach

Updated: Aug 6, 2021

I noticed that last week's note on The Last Island Hideouts got plenty of attention, so I figure I would "visit" another exotic island. Have you heard about Fernando de Noronha, Brazil? It boasts the world's best beach Baia do Sancho (at least according to the 2020 Trip Advisor Travellers' Choice Awards). The archipelago is a national park and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.

As one patron stated it "As you walk through a small trail, you can't imagine what awaits you. The heavenly view seems like a mirage."

This island has been open for business again since the end of August. But there is a catch, you need to have had COVID to go. Yes, you need to have a positive PCR test result that is at least 20 days old, or a serology test showing the presence of anti-bodies, and you are good to go ( Immunity Passports Revisited ).

After this successful relaunch, the island has now opened up further, also allowing certain PCR tests coupled with the use of the DyCOVID (Dynamic Contact Tracing) application and while in the region (the tool will track possible exposure and notify the user when there is a high-risk contact.) Unfortunately they recently had to jail four visitors who faked their test documents. With this serious approach, Fernando de Noronha has proven to be doing far, far better than the rest of Brazil.

Passport Canada just tweeted out a reminder encouraging Canadians to apply for passports ready for overseas winter vacations. "Are you planning a winter vacation but don't have a valid passport? Don't wait, apply now!" it said. Maybe they know something we don't.

Ready for your next adventure?

Cheers

Cliff
