Thought of the Day - November 19 - BC Wave Response

I must admit I am kind of liking BC's response to this current wave. Of course I am not happy we have a wave or that it is significant enough to warrant further restriction, no, I mean I like the approach.
Rather than in the spring, when wholesale forced business shutdown was the order of the day (I guess to force the preparation of safety plans), this time the onus is being put squarely back on our shoulders:
The zone system is being put in place and non-essential travel between zones is being shutdown Province-wide;
Curtailing meetings and gatherings, particularly in-person church services (responsible for a number of case-clusters across Canada), and sports - watching kids sports, and of course high risk indoor activities (amazingly people still do spin-classes & hot yoga!);
Mask wearing is finally becoming mandatory (due to public pressure), and I hear care-homes are now fitting their staff for N95 masks;
I also think the messaging is improving, especially to youth. One of my daughters mentioned Milkshake : “While I understand that your milkshake might bring all the boys to the yard, and it’s likely it’s better than yours” said Bonnie, pausing. “Well, damn right, it’s better than yours,” she chuckled. “But given the current escalation in new cases, your milkshake may only bring up to three boys from the same bubble to the yard.”
The only thing missing at this time is the enforcement piece, but if things do not go in the right direction in the next two weeks, that will come too.
Cheers
Cliff
