The world-wide official numbers are now over 40 million cases, 30 million of which have recovered, and over one million dead, leaving nine million people in quarantine many of whom are symptomatic and a small fraction of which are in hospital.
To put this in perspective this is like the whole of Canada has tested positive, BC plus Alberta plus Newfoundland&Labrador are in quarantine, the entire population of Nova Scotia and PEI have been wiped out, all of New Brunswick is in hospital, and the rest of Canada has recovered.
The list of places with no active cases has dwindled, now down to a number of small islands: Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Macao, Montserrat, New Caledonia, and Saint Kitts&Nevis (at the start of the summer there were twenty-four locales: Thought of the Day - May 22 - COVID Free ).
The list of places with the highest number of total cases per million population are:
Qatar - 46k
Bahrain - 45k
Israel - 33k
Panama - 29k
Kuwait - 27k
Peru - 26k
Chile - 26k
USA - 25k
Brazil - 25k
Argentina - 21k
In contrast Canada has 5k per million (about the world average).
The list of places with the highest number of total deaths per million population are:
Peru - 1.0k
Belgium - 0.89k
Brazil - 0.72k
Spain - 0.72k
Bolivia - 0.72k
Chile - 0.71k
Ecuador - 0.70k
USA - 0.68k
Mexico - 0.66k
UK - 0.64k
In contrast Canada has 0.26k per million (double the world average).
In new cases per million, after seeming to avoid the first wave, Czechia has come to the fore, now with similar numbers to Belgium.
In new deaths per million, Argentina is now having a tough time, followed by Czechia.
The USA and India continue to go head to head with the most total new cases and new deaths of any country.
Cheers
Cliff
P.S. Please note these data are not accurate (for example the UK realized at the beginning of the month they forgot to include 16,000 cases) at best they provide information on trends.
