Thought of the Day - October 21 - Border Closing Revisited

Updated: Jul 30, 2021

Much of the discussion here in Canada has been about the US border ( Thought of the Day - September 8 - Border Still Closed) and indeed it has now been announced that the Canada-US border will remain closed until at least November 21st. While I fully expect the border to be closed until the end of the year, I have also seen articles suggesting that it may be the summer 2021 before the restriction on land crossings are lifted. No wonder a Nova Scotia couple decided not to wait. They held their wedding at the border between New Brunswick and Maine so family and friends from the US could witness the event.

The new news on Border Closing is from Europe. With our increasing case-rates, the EU will no longer allow non-essential travel from Canada.

In July, the EU set up a list of countries whose citizens would be allowed access for non-essential travel. Canada had been on the approved list from Day 1, along with 14 other countries. We have now been removed along with Tunisia and Georgia.

Still on the list are just nine countries: Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Uruguay.  Guess we need look at what they are doing right.

Cheers

Cliff
